Three children dead in bus crash

By Anastasia McInerney

Four people including three school children have died and up to 20 others injured in a bus accident yesterday in Smalltown.

Five people including the bus driver of the national coach service bus are in a critical condition in Smalltown hospital.

The incident happened at 4pm when the Kingfisher Primary School bus and national coach service collided near the corner of Ocean Parade and Scenic Highway.

An eyewitness “heard a huge bang like a bomb going off” from the Ocean Parade and Scenic Highway intersection.

The witness said the intersection was “so dangerous” and local councilors “should do something about better traffic signals at that intersection”.

The accident had a “devastating effect” on those involved, Kingfisher Primary School headmistress Caroline Primm said.
